“This type of business model seems cool,” you’re saying, “but how much can I really make on Patreon?”
The following are estimates based on our experience running and monitoring several Patreons. “Fans” are listeners or viewers who watch your content daily/weekly, have exhibited an interest in supporting you via merchandise, and/or clearly show a passion for you and your content. These are the people who want to see you succeed and grow.
How much will I make on Patreon?
5k – 10k fans
$1,000 – $2,000 monthly
10k – 25k fans
$2,000 – $4,000 monthly
25k – 50k fans
$4,000 – $6,000 monthly
50k – 100k fans
$6,000 – $10,000 monthly
Does this seem too good to be true? Yes, but it is true. One example: My Harry Potter podcast MuggleCast operated for a decade as a free podcast without listener support (other than the occasional merchandise). In 2016 we launched our Patreon, and, well, see for yourself how it’s doing!
You are in control of your own success. One of the most rewarding aspects of Patreon for a creator is that you’ll get to see your fans supporting you in a meaningful way. It feels good to have people financially support what you do!
And don’t be afraid to create pledge levels that cost supporters $10 or more. Believe it or not, some of your fans have dispensable income that they’ll want to spend on you. Those $10+ pledge levels can grow your Patreon fast. Just make sure your have rewards that people will want to stick around for.
An example of how important a $10+ pledge level is: At the time of this writing, the #Millennial Patreon has close to 100 people pledging $10 per month. That accounts for a third of our Patreon revenue.
